Orson Scott Card

“I taught you everything you know. But I didn't teach you everything I know.”
― Orson Scott Card

“In order to learn, one must change one's mind.”
― Orson Scott Card

Orson Scott Card is a great science fiction writer and he really gets into depth on his characters.  It makes his people seem real.  Two of his best books are Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow.

He also wrote several interesting books telling fictional life stories from the view point of famous biblical characters, such as Sarah the wife of Abraham.

This set of books parallel the story of Lehi and his children as they fled Jerusalem under the direction of God, only it's the same thing happening to a different set of people on an alien world.  Orson Scott Card is a great-great-grandson of Brigham Young.
